The orchestra score is amazing, and better than the previous album of Once and Imaginaerum. Loading... Save. Anyway, Dark Passion Play begins with "The Poet & the Pendulum", a romantic 13-minute long sonnet. My turntable has been replaced by a digital streamer and that now plays anything from Lykie Li to Drive-by Truckers with a lot in between.

I have but one complaint about this album, while in all versions of the album — including on the CD itself — it lists disc two as "Orchestral Versions" but a quick listen will show the listeners that this is definitely the instrumental version of the album, which I still enjoy, but I bought a second CD with the instrumental versions hoping to have the original, instrumental, and orchestral versions of the album, but it seems I will have wasted that other money, unfortunately. The Poet And The Pendulum is a masterpiece that I would dare say is possibly the best Nightwish song I have ever heard.
A thoroughly enjoyable listening experience! The instrumentals stand alone without the help of Anette's vocals, who is an amazing singer, I must note.
